Sakai: Ambassodor! Ambassodor G'Kar!
G'Kar: Ah, Ms. Sakai, I'm pleased to see that you returned safely from your expedition.
Sakai: Yes, thanks to you. Just one question, Why?
G'Kar: Why not?
Sakai: It's not an answer.
G'Kar: Oh, yes, it is. It's simply not an answer you like or the answer you expected. There's a difference. Narns, humans, Centauri, we all do what we for the same reason ... because it seemed like a good idea at the time.
I love that... I'm not a big fan of B5... I didn't care for JMS at all until I saw what he did with ASM, but I love that quote at the end.
I don't think it's possible to understand the actions we call evil... or to combat them on a wide scale... until we understand and accept that 99% of the time, nobody does anything but what strikes them as the best thing to do at the moment.
I don't say this as a means of advocating moral relativism... just because something seems right to somebody doesn't mean that it is... it is an explanation, or a step towards one, rather than an excuse.
