... that Chuck Hagel is starting to sound like Charlie Rangel. At least where the horrible idea of a draft is concerned. I was going to address this issue, but it's inconceivable that I could address this issue anywhere near as well as Donald Sensing did. Just read what he said.
I'll only add that I believe we need a bigger military. I suspect that we need at least two full armored divisions plus a lot of other land forces. And I'm generally of the opinion that you can never have too many airplanes and ships. However, there is simply no reason to use a draft to expand the military unless you've already tried and failed to recruit sufficient volunteers.
I think that Sensing is quite right when he say that advocates of the draft are not primarily, if at all, actually worried about national security.
