Calling all cat lovers

I woke up this morning to find my dog barking like a maniac. At first I thought she might have chased a squirrel up a tree, but a)she doesn't usually bark at them and b) I started hearing an awful lot of racket coming from the tree.

Come to find out, there's a kitten stuck up there. Maybe its just scared, maybe it's one of those unfortunates who's had the front claws removed, but regardless, it doesn't show any sign of coming down.

I tied my dog up where they can't see each other and that has at least stopped the barking. I called animal control. They said they'd send someone when they, "had an officer free". In the meantime, I can't let my dog loose until the cat's down and the nature of the way I have to tie her up makes it dangerous to leave her that way when I'm not here to check on her.

I don't suppose anyone's got any ideas about how to coax cats out of trees?

Update: Animal control finally came. Am I glad it was them and not me. That cat was vicious when he got it down. They have the right equipment. All I have was a pair of gloves. The way it was going at it, it would have made mince meat of my arms.

Any way, the cat's safe now, but if they don't find an owner, who knows how long that will last.
